You Have the Power -Wellness Wed.

As I am sure, we all aware of the latest suicides that was publicized in the news last week. It has been hard to hear and read about. I’ve seen quite a few statuses on social media saying that we need to check on our folks and that we need to do more than post hotline numbers on our page.  So, how do we show the people we love them that we do care about them and want them to be apart of our lives, as long as humanly possible? I am by no means an expert but I try to show the people who I love that their presence in my life means a lot to me. Here are a few things that any person, as a friend, can do.

  • Send a Thinking of You Card.
  • Send a Video.
  • Make Plans to see each other. Don’t Cancel Said Plans.
  • Say, “I Love You.” Give Hugs.
  • Find out what their interests are.
  • Support them. Show Up.
  • Listen. It is not always your job to fix the problem, just let them vent.
  • Hold them Accountable.
  • Offer to make or go to appointments with them.
  • Believe them.

These are just a few things that we can do to be of help to someone who is hurting or who feels the need to know that they aren’t in this big world by themselves.

Mental Health is real. It is a topic that should be discussed as easy as diabetes, breast cancer or who wore what at the BET awards.
